The Goodness of God

Somedays I just need the reminder that God is good and that He is for me. Sounds basic, I know, but through this journey of overcoming depression & anxiety I’ve found that if I don’t continuously remind myself of His goodness, the devil will try to convince me that He’s not good.

But friend, He is SO GOOD and He has done so many things for you already. It’s time we look back at some of the past battles that He’s brought us through and remind ourselves of His goodness.

We throw around the word “good” a lot in our everyday language, but let’s look at some places where the Bible reminds us just how good God is.

After each verse, take a second to ponder (or even write down) why God is good to you based on the verse.

“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.” Nahum 1:7

God is good to me because:

“For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.” Psalm 86:5

God is good to me because:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

God is good to me because:

Aren’t those beautiful reasons to celebrate His goodness? And as you probably have figured out, these reasons are just the tip of the iceberg. God’s goodness abounds for so many more reasons and those reasons are never-ending!

And because of His goodness, He will see you through this struggle. He will make sure that you have the supports you need to overcome this mental mountain. He is for you and He will never leave you.

Remember His goodness and simply ask Him for help today.

Reflection Time:

If you feel like the devil is trying to sell you a lie that God isn’t good, then it’s time for you to remind him, and yourself, just how good God really is. Spend time today meditating on specific reasons why He is good to YOU. If you refuse to buy the devil’s lies, you’ll be one step closer to your victory.
