Your Tied Up Mind

Are you distracted from the real problem hindering your mind?

If you’ve been battling depression, anxiety, anger, fear, or any other negative thought cycle, then you’ve maybe been distracted from the real problem–the enemy.

Take a look at John 10:10 below

“The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

John 10:10 NIV

When your mind is in a battle, it is tied up fighting off any foreboding attack. Satan knows it and he tries to press in, stealing more of your peace and joy. He knows that if he can distract you from the real issue (him), he can tie you up and then plunder the rest of your mind.

In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.

Mark 3:27 NIV

Often, it starts with something small. The thought of, “there’s a creepy person in front of my house,” can turn into, “that man is going to break into my house and do harm to me.” Guess what? 99% of the time, those thoughts never come to fruition. However, the devil can lock up your mind and steal your peace, if you allow him to tie you up.

So what do we do? We recognize where the negative thought comes from and shut it down by speaking out the Word of God.

Let’s go back to my previous example. The thought, “there’s a creepy person in front of my house” will begin to spiral out of control unless you choose to stop it. So let’s shut it down!

My go-to verse to shut down lies from the enemy is 2 Corinthians 10:5:

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

I remind myself of that verse and I start putting my mouth to work. We have to speak our faith out loud in order to give it action!

“Lord, I thank you that you have given me the power to demolish every argument and take captive every thought that doesn’t align with Christ. Thought of harm, panic, fear you have no place in my life because God promised to always take care of me and my family! I thank you Lord that you always keep your promises and I can rely on you.

In Jesus’ Name–Amen!”

That thought has to leave as soon as you cast it down. And even if it comes back 100 times each day, you repeat the same process to hammer it into the devil’s head that you will not be bound up by his harmful thoughts.

If this seems overwhelming, just think of the alternative. The alternative is living our lives bound up by a thief–John 10:10 & Mark 3:27 told us that.

Remember God wants us to have LIFE! And to live our lives to the fullest!

You can do this my friend. You can choose to use your words and cast down thoughts and imaginations that are harmful to your mental health. God has given us the permission and power in His word to do it, so let’s not leave our victory on the shelf. Let’s grab hold of it and fight off Satan’s lies.

It’s time to free your tied-up mind.
