As far as personalities go, I’m like a triple-shot espresso. High energy, go-getter, life-of-the-party type. My husband is the complete opposite. Decaf, straight black, no creamer. Uncomplicated and always calm.
Because of our opposite personalities, I’ve learned to rely on him for strength when anxieties start creeping around in my mind. He calmly and patiently talks me out of the hyperactive, over-caffeinated state that I’ve reached and reminds me how irrational my fears are. He helps me realign my thoughts with the truth of God’s word and extends the peace within his soul to mine. God knew I needed his steadfast strength.
Like my wonderful husband’s personality, the Holy Spirit (God’s spirit living inside of us) is the ultimate comforter and presence of peace. He can supernaturally help us walk through the pressures and worries of life, without breaking a sweat.
Whenever my busy thoughts were out of control, the soothing comfort of your presence calmed me down and overwhelmed me with delight.
Psalm 94:19 TPT
Isn’t it nice to know that God didn’t leave us to fend off anxiety all on our own? Let’s face it, that would be an impossible task for all the triple-shot espressos like me! Hah! Instead, He implanted His spirit of peace within us so that we could simply dig it out as needed.
And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!
John 16:33 TPT
Are you needing to dig out His peace and apply it to the anxieties multiplying in your mind? Are you needing to re-ground yourself in the truth of His word so that you can boldly stand before the giant of fear?
Take some time today to remind yourself of the truth that God loves you and has your best interest at heart! He wants only good things for you and He has given you victory over the enemy!
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 ESV
In a world full of craziness, God has promised that His peace will be what guards your heart and mind. So what are you waiting for? Allow Him to be that soft, soothing de-caffeinated cup of coffee in your triple-shot espresso world.
Reflection Time:
Years ago, God prompted my heart to read a book by Peggy Joyce Ruth called, “Psalm 91 for Mothers.” This incredible tool challenged me to take God at His word–especially in the area of fear for my daughter’s safety. If you struggle with thoughts of fear concerning the safety of your child–this book is well worth the investment.
