Faith > Fear: For Your Household

Every choice you make as a mama affects future generations.

In reading Hebrews 11 today I was struck by the number of FAITH people that saved their “households” (meaning kids, parents, siblings etc.) because of their tenacious boldness and unwillingness to surrender to fear.

Let me show you what I’m talking about.

By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household.

Hebrews 11:7 ESV

Noah saved his household by doing something absolutely unthinkable to the culture around him. He built a boat, prepping for a storm that the world had never before experienced. It saved his household because he acted in FAITH > FEAR.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Hebrews 11:8 ESV

Abraham saved his household by moving them to a foreign land. I bet there were all kinds of fearful thoughts running through his mind as he moved his wife and all of his property to a place he had never been. Yet he obeyed God and stepped out in FAITH. Because of that decision, God blessed him with a son and piled wealth, protection and a legacy of descendants on him.

By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

Hebrews 11:24-26 ESV

Moses saved his Israelite household (and the entire tribe!) by choosing to lower himself in status. He made the choice to turn away from the riches and worldly pleasures of the Egyptian family that he had been adopted into. I’m sure many of his former friends and Egyptian family scoffed at him thinking, “what in the world are you doing, fool? You’ve got wealth, chariots, power and you want to leave all of that to be a slave?” But yet he followed God in FAITH and refused to fear Pharaoh. As you know, God used Moses’ faith to lead his entire nation out of slavery and into a promised land.

By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.

Hebrews 11:31 ESV

Rahab saved her household by housing the Israelite spies and believing that God was more powerful than her city walls. If caught, she would’ve died, but her FAITH and boldness saved her entire family.

All of these examples in Hebrews 11 should make you feel empowered as a Mama! Think of the mighty authority that you have as a parent to walk out your life in faith and save your household from perilous disasters.

Yes, it’s easier to look at the dangerous world around you and stay paralyzed by fear. However, if you want your faith to grow it’s time to say “bye-bye” to fear and “welcome” to faith. It’s time to start making choices that will affect your children and future generations in a positive way.

It’s time to pick FAITH > FEAR and realize that God will always have your back if you step out and trust Him.

You can do it, Mama. You can live a life fear free.
