Did you make a New Year’s resolution this year? Did it happen to be about losing weight or caring for your health? Yep. Me too.
I’ve been examining my diet for the last while and have realized that sugar needs to go away for a while. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, there seem to be cupcakes, cookies, and homemade bread everywhere I go–but I need to be intentional about my temple.
Here’s what the Holy Spirit has been revealing to me:
Consuming copious amounts of sugar is like my temple hosting a party. It’s wonderful and fun–but the party shouldn’t last forever. Sugar is like short-term excitement to the taste buds with no long-term benefit to the body.
And it doesn’t build my temple with sustainable materials.
The Bible is very clear on the importance of our bodies–it refers to them as temples. Check out this verse:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV
Jesus bought and paid for our temples. They are precious to Him and He doesn’t want us to fill them up with junk.
This isn’t a diet and exercise speech—you hear enough of those from other places–but it is a post to remind you not to neglect your body while renewing your mama mind. Give your body rest. Give it exercise. Give it fresh air and sunshine. Give it nutrients.
Honor God with the temple (and the mind that is housed within your temple) and watch Him protect it, sustain it and bless it.
