Don’t wear that — wear this instead.

Have you ever asked someone, “What should I wear?” I’ve asked my sweet husband that question many times, but unfortunately, he usually doesn’t have much guidance for me.

However, when I ask one of my girlfriends that question, I typically receive a more solid answer. Yep. It’s a girl thing. One of my besties is especially gifted at helping others look their best. So when I call her for fashion help, she doesn’t hesitate to Facetime me or to come over and rummage through my closet. She has my best interest at heart.

The same can be said about the Father God. He always has your best interest at heart — especially when it comes to your mind. He wants you to think and dwell on thoughts that will be a blessing to you and bring glory to Him. He doesn’t want you meditating on a lie that the devil concocted, when He has steadfast promises in His Word that deliver life and healing.

However, like an old pair of stained sweatpants, sometimes we struggle to give up the lie. We’ve heard it for so long that we’ve become comfortable with it. We don’t want to give it up because it’s defined us.

And yet, here comes our kind Father with a brand new outfit — designed by the creator of the universe — saying, “Don’t wear that lie anymore, come wear my truth instead.”

Ephesians 4 tells us that our new self was “created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” That’s what our Father wants us to wear. He wants us to wear righteousness and holiness. Things that reflect Him and His goodness.

That’s great Bethany, but how do I do that? I’m glad you asked! Check out my chart:

Step 1: Rip off the stained sweatshirt. Repent of your past sins and if you haven’t invited Jesus into your heart to be your Lord and Savior, start with that simple prayer (I’ve given you an example below).

Step 2: Dig into the scriptures and find out who the Father says that you are. Here are some verses to get you started:

  • Chosen: John 15:16 & Ephesians 1:4
  • Loved: Romans 5:8
  • Anointed: 1 John 2:20
  • Forgiven: 1 John 1:9
  • Son/Daughter of God: John 1:12

God has a beautiful outfit waiting for you dear Mama, but He needs you to trust Him and remove any old lies that you’re clinging to first. Then, step out in faith and trust Him, saying, “Lord, if you call me loved, then I am. If you call me chosen, then I am. If you call me beautiful, then I am.”

Start removing the lies from your mind and instead begin confessing the truth. He is for you, and He has your best interest at heart. Let Him pick out your outfit today 😉

If you haven’t made Jesus the Lord of your life, please take a moment to pray this prayer below. I know that Jesus is returning soon to gather His children and bring them to heaven for eternity — please don’t miss your opportunity to join Him.

Mama, if you prayed that prayer for the first time — don’t keep it a secret! Email me! Tell a friend that you know is a Christian! Walk into a church and speak with a pastor! God & I want to celebrate you and the new life that you have just embraced by putting off your old self & choosing to trust Him instead.
