Grieve with Hope

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

–Psalm 34:18

Miscarriage. It rocks about 10% of mamas (23 million miscarriages worldwide) each year. If you find yourself relating to these statistics — my heart truly goes out to you —and you have every right to grieve those beautiful babies that now are at home in heaven.

I know this is a tough topic and if you’re reading this with tear-filled eyes, that’s ok. Just like our verse in Psalms states, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” But through your tears, through your pain, know that the Creator of Life is still by your side and He will not forsake you in this valley. He is the God who always provides hope.

“How do I have hope if I’m never going to see them again?”

If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are Heaven bound! You WILL get to see them again. They are delicately being held by Jesus until their sweet mama makes her heavenly entrance too. You will get to see their little bodies glorified, playing and running through those fields of flowers in heaven. You will get to witness them playing pain free, forgetting the struggles that were in this world.

Here’s what 1 Thessalonians states about the hope that we can have even when one we loved here on the earth has departed to heaven.

“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

Jesus loves children and you can rest assured that He is taking the best of care of all the babies whose lives on the earth were ended far too soon.

Dearest friend, I pray that if there’s one thing miscarriage journey has given you — it’s the reminder that what awaits you in heaven is far better than anything this earth could give you. When our eyes are shifted towards the horizons of eternity, our hope and trust in our ever-loving-Savior only grows. What does this world really have to offer?

We’re just even more ready to head to our heavenly home and see those beautiful babies that we didn’t get to cradle in our arms here on earth.  And because Jesus has gifted us the promise of eternal life in heaven, we can choose to hope.

Reflection Time:

Dear Mama,

If you’ve experienced a miscarriage and you’re struggling to pull yourself out of the hold of grief — I’m glad you’re here. Those emotions, unfulfilled dreams and hopes are not ignored by God. He was there to witness the first loss of life (Abel in Genesis) in a beautiful world where He had created no death or loss. I can only imagine how grieved His heart was when Adam and Eve welcomed in sin and therefore death. He knew how this was not only going to affect them but all of us to come.

However, thankfully that isn’t where the story ends. God the Father gave up His own son Jesus — to die — so that hopelessness could be cancelled out forever. Jesus took on our sin as His own, to cover the cost of the death that we all deserved.

There has never been a more beautiful act of love.

I encourage you today, mama, to pick yourself up and remind yourself of how much you have to live for. You have a Heavenly Father who loves you so much that He sent His son for you. He wants you to live a happy, healthy life here on the earth — with a growing anticipation to see heaven and the precious life awaiting you there.
