Today was Monday and I was struggling to find the desire to yank my tired body out of bed. Through sheer willpower, I begrudgingly drug my tired body to our local YMCA. You’ll be grateful you exercised later today. Something is better than nothing.
Something is better than nothing
Days filled with depressive and anxious thoughts are exhausting. Deep down inside, you know that you need to do something but maybe you’re scared. Or you don’t want to inconvenience anyone. Or you don’t want your struggle to become public. Or, or, or….
Doing something is better than nothing.
What is something that you can start with today? What is the first step that you can take to climb out of the pit of anxiety or depression? Take a small baby step forward.
Doing something is better than nothing.
“Ok, so what should I do?”
Before we get to the below list, let me highlight that you are a three-part being. You are a spirit, who has a soul, who lives in a body. When dealing with depression & anxiety–your soul (mind, will and emotions) is the portion of you under attack .
May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
While you’re working hard on the “soul” portion of yourself, be sure to keep the other 2/3rds of you on track. Immerse yourself in the Word of God in order to feed your spirit healthy things and don’t let your diet & exercise routine slip! All three parts of our being are vital to living a healthy and whole life. When one part is out of balance, our whole being can suffer.
Below are a few examples of things that you can do to help support each part of your being when it is under attack. There are many other things not listed, but here’s a short list to get you started.

Does this list look overwhelming to you? Remember our phrase today: doing something is better than nothing.
Pick one thing. Start with one area (spirit, soul, or body) and choose one support to add to your routine. Then, once you have that area moving in the right direction, add in another support.
