Rest

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 NIV

I think this is a verse written especially for MAMA’s! Whew! If you are nodding your head thinking, “Yep! I’m in that weary and burdened category,” know that you are in good company!

God knew that certain seasons of our lives would require us to give more of ourselves than we have–and that’s why we were created to be reliant on HIM. He is the one with the rest and to get it we have to come to Him, crawl up in His lap like a little child, and ask for it.

Why do we have to ask Him for it? Is He some god on a power trip insistent on people begging Him for things?

No, God isn’t on a power trip because He doesn’t have to be. He IS the Almighty and most powerful one. He created the universe and everything that we see around us. He doesn’t need us to beg Him for rest, He invites us to partake of His rest. A supernatural rest that will fill our physical energy tank.

Ok. Then how do we come to Him?

We close our eyes and pray with our hearts wide open. There aren’t magic words that we have to say in a certain pattern ending with “Amen”. We simply have to honestly speak out what we are seeing and feeling and ask Him to move. He desires to move within our lives but won’t do so without our permission.

I’ve never prayed before so how do I know that God really exists?

My friend, there are SO MANY ways to know that God exists (I won’t get into them here, but click this link for a great resource if you’re curious!). We might not be able to see the Heavenly Father with our physical eyes, but I assure you He will make His presence known by filling our hearts with peace. And if this is the 4th night in a row where you’ve seen 1am, 2am and 3am on your phone—what do you have to lose?! Call out to Him.

Reflection Time:

Dear Mama, please know that if you feel tired, weary, burdened, and overwhelmed there is a God in Heaven who wants to help you. He loves you and because He has given you this precious child to care for He will also provide you with the rest your body needs. Simply humble yourself before Him and ask for it.

Here’s an example of a prayer that you can pray. Remember there are no magic words, just be open and honest:

Dear God, I’m tired and weary, but I know you are the one who holds all rest. I come humbly before you asking for the sleep and strength I need to courageously face a new day. I know that you are a good Father who always provides for your children, so I trust that you will provide it for me now, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
