Anxiety: Calling Out The Robber

“Surrender your anxiety. Be still and realize that I am God. I am God above all the nations, and I am exalted throughout the whole earth.” Psalm 46:10 TPT

What is a robber? Go ahead and take a second to think about it.

I’m guessing you didn’t come up with pleasant words because being robbed is not a pleasant experience. The act of someone taking something that you have isn’t right, is it?

Thankfully, it’s even against the law.

But for whatever reason, we don’t think twice about being robbed spiritually. We refer to anger, anxiety, fear and other things as “normal”. And although they might be “normal” to us because they are common problems that people battle, they aren’t meant to be in our lives. God didn’t create us to live anger filled, anxiety ridden, fear dominated lives. He created us to live above those things in freedom and gave us the authority to do so!

Let’s hone in on anxiety today because it is a real thief.

“What if _____________?” You fill in the blank. We all have our “what if” questions, but I have found that “what if” questions usually cultivate and feed anxiety. Who needs more of that in their lives?  “What if” questions also often reveal our lack of trust in God. When we are constantly asking anxiety-ridden “What if” questions, we are allowing fear to have a stronger and stronger hold on our hearts.

So, what if we changed our negative “What if” questions to positive affirmations of God’s goodness?

For example, the thought, “What if my kids get kidnapped?” We could immediately change that thought to, “God I thank you that your angels are always around me and my children. I know I can trust your perfect protection.”

The first statement is a statement of fear and a lack of trust in God. The second statement is a statement of faith acknowledging God’s power and promise of protection. The first statement increases fear and anxiety. The second promotes freedom and peace.

We can choose to keep or discard every thought that comes into our brains. Blessing or cursing. Fear or faith.

Here’s the good news! When fear is eliminated, then God has more opportunity to use you for His glory. When we get rid of fear we are no longer paralyzed with all the “what if” questions, but we instead are supported by His faithful promises.

You can do this mama! Push the fear and anxiety out and put faith in its place.

Reflection Time:

Think of a “what if________” fear that has dominated your mind. How can you change one of these fears into faith today?

What does God’s word specifically say about that fear? If you need help with this, my recommendation is to start reading Psalm 91. God has promised you peace and security in EVERY area of your life.
